AQUATIC ASSET FILES-TYLOSAURUS

Description

Now you probably already know this, but I love the Jurassic Franchise.
And because I'm such a fanboy, I'm super hyped for the next installment of this beloved franchise: Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
So, to keep this hype-train rolling, I've decided to make files explaining the dinosaurs of Isla Nublar/Sorna, explaining how they behave, how much of their genetic code was altered by Ingen Scientists, and how they compare to their original counterparts.

One thing to note- I'll also be adjusting them slightly, like adding little bits of feathers here or there.
(mainly because I find it difficult to draw dinosaur without at least some form of proto-feathers)

For the twentieth creature on our list, I've decided to showcase a deep terror of the sea....
called: "AQUATIC-ASSET" FILES-1
Carnivore File-"Devil from the deep"

otherwise known as Tylosaurus Paradoxis Nublarensis

Since my last few posts have been showcasing some of ingen's most iconic herbivorous types of Ingen's assets...
But for my 20th post, I've decided to showcase something special, something mysterious, something that is one of Ingen's genetic "Screw-ups"

That's right, today, I'm talking about the ingen TYLOSAURUS!

The first thing to note- While we haven't seen this creature in the films, this creature has been referenced in the novel, but made it's one of the main story-roles in the telltale "Jurassic Park: The Game", which takes place directly after the events of the first movie. In particular, a scene where, following Laura Sorkin, who had gone to try stop the scheduled bombing that would have taken place on Isla Nublar (had Hammond not stopped it later, because of a change of heart) and the group is trying to reason with her, but in her blind protest, she attempts frees the tylosaur from it's holding pen, giving it a chance to escape...

But the irony of it, is that it ends up devouring her and after Billy Yoder betrays the group (I mean to be fair, he lost two of his best friends by that point, so he was maybe a little unstable) leaving them to swim to safety, whilst avoiding the maw of this terrifying sea-monster and then trapping it inside it inside the cage, preventing it from escaping nto the global ecosystem.

But aside from that, If you were to ask me what I think of this creature, what I'd say is that like all JP designs, I love it.
I love the creepy deep-sea feel that it gives...very reminiscent of a vicious whale or a large shark mixed with a crocodile...
works really well for the scene that it is in...

But in terms of how close it is to its ancestor, well I'd say it is about as close to its original counterpart as was the JP3 Ceratosaurus...except to a more extreme extent
What I mean is that if you analyze the details of this creature and compare it to it's "ancestor", you'd see at least three or four major genetic differences.

I'll go through them right here
Including:

1-Strange, Spiky Osteoderms: One of the BIGGEST difference anybody would notice about ingen's  Tylosaurus is that, along it's back and it's tail (which we'll get to in a moment) it sports these sharp yellow spikes protruding out in a sort of ridge, reminiscent of reptiles like horned dragons and crocodiles/alligators.
(this is likely an altered trait, which I'll explain in a bit)

2-Large Bulky Neck-Muscles: Not to say that the original didn't have some sort of "blubber" and muscle but in Ingen's specimen seems to take it to a bit of an extreme, particularly in the neck regions, but then again, given how Ingen tends to be, I'd imagine that they were feeding this creature steroid-filled fish, if that is the case, they would explain this enormous amount of muscles (and why it was really strong)

3-Paddle-Shaped Croc Tail: Now, this one isn't that big of a problem because like the feathers on dinosaurs, Ingen wouldn't have known about that in 1993, but their tylosaur doesn't have a whale-like tail fluke, but instead a large, hardened paddle-like tail, giving it good momentum, but explains it's problem when turning around extremely sharp corners and why it has to rely on charge tactics rather than a stealthy ambush

4-A Broad, Armoured Head: last of all is that unlike it's "ancestor", which possessed a long sleek snout, Ingen's "tylosaurus" has a much broader and more "dinosaur-like" head, complete with armored scutes and scaly eye-brow ridges...

All of these, would make most people hesitate to actually call this a "tylosaur", but...as I've explained before... this is the Jurassic franchise, they cloned these animals with genetic engineering, meaning there is a proper reason for the "inaccuracies", especially ones as "drastic" as this.

In the case of this guy, it is simply the case that it doesn't have as much of its original DNA intact
Likely meaning that it had most of it's genetically filled in with some modern animal....

So I did a bit of research, digging deep into the ingen-files, studying the animal's altered biology and what animals seem to bear the most resemblance to those features and I think I've found something...it seems the creature they use to fill in the gaps were strands of TEXAS ALLIGATOR DNA!

The reason for this that when Ingen was first acquiring the DNA for their assets, they didn't just get it from Amber, but also from "Biomolecules" (preserved blood) found directly inside fossils (you might have heard of the blood they found from a T-rex leg recently) and presumably, they got the DNA from an extremely well-preserved tylosaur fossil, extracted it, but found that they weren't quite about to synthesise the DNA in the same way as the dinosaur/pterosaur DNA samples they had gathered.

and the result that they decoded was far more broken than most of ingen's assets. So, to fix this problem (and to avoid having another "sickly demon" like their "troodon"-taliesaurus.deviantart.com/art…)
they decided to "improvise", filling the DNA with not just frog DNA but the DNA of what they thought at the time was the ancestor to mosasaurs...

But, in their rush, they didn't check the DATA like they did with their dinosaurs.
They didn't find, until it was too late that tylosaurs are more related to monitor lizards and thus, the resulting creature ended up as more of a Hybrid, rather than just an "altered animal" like their other assets.

(not that it all matters for only one of this strange creature existed and sadly, this asset became extinct in late 1993, evidently it had starved to death, something which I kinda find a bit sad for :( )
