My Forty-Third entry for the mini project
(The Middle of Africa)

If anyone remembers my 11th post, which was a endangered species of titanosaur sauropod living in the savannahs of Africa.

Well now I'm showcasing it's much larger relative that thrives in the tall-forests of the Congo, standing over 67 ft tall and over 78 ft long....

I'm of course talking about one of the largest animals of this Altered Earth: The RED-NECKED TITAN (A.K.A- NEOBRACHIUS)

Unlike their grassland cousin, these green titans live in a more traditional sauropod fashion, by browsing on the tall, lush vegetation which include derived forms of cycads, conifers and some strange looking "monkey-puzzle" trees.

They often possess a light green on their scales, but as the name suggest, the males of the species posses a bright red underside to their neck (which they use for display and to ram rival males) as well a bold, black and white head.
But while the females of this species come together in groups, the males live a much more solitary life.

This is partially because, being so large (even by dinosaur standards) these titans have little to no predators once fully grown, and even if a predator is somehow foolish enough to try taking on this titan, all the giant has to do is whip-crack with hi tail, or simply rear up on his hinds, and squish the foolish predator to pieces...(literally)

But as long as no-one's poking it, these titanosaurs are peaceful creatures, paying no mind to any large carnivore, (so long as the carnivore is wise enough to leave it alone) and they will spend their days marching through the land, knocking down young trees like twigs leaving a trail of uprooted earth, from which strange oviraptors called "JACKAL-BIRDS" will scavenge tubers, insects and small mammals.

This in turn, spreads the seeds far and wide, so that the titan's diet is mostly sustained...

One would think that, with all these benefits, this king of the land would never face any problems right? WRONG!

The very reason why they have remained so large and so relatively unchanged for a good 30 million years, is because of the forests able to support their massive bodies, but recently (like 4 million years ago) the climate began to dry and the forests have began to shrink, not just because of the climate, or even because of the "Titan's" massive diet...

But because, as the ice ages began to take effect, herds of ceratopsian herbivores migrating from places like Asia and Europe, came into the ecosystem and began eating the sampling faster than they could grow to full trees. This created strain on the titan's natural habitat as the new ceratopsians begin to turn the lush rainforest into lush grassland.

Today, the titan's habitat has shrunk by 67%, so now the RED-NECKED TITAN resides near the very centre of Africa, in places like the Congo, Nigeria, Kenya and Sudan....
